Authenticity & Watch Grading
Every watch we sell has been through the lab. Here's exactly what that means.
How We Verify Authenticity
Every watch is personally inspected before listing. We check for signs of counterfeit parts, movement swaps, or dial/hand replacements. For the brands we sell — Seiko, Citizen, Rado, and others — we know the genuine article inside out.
If we have any doubt about a piece, it doesn't go up for sale. Simple as that.
- Case back markings, serial numbers, and model references checked against known genuine examples
- Movement checked for correct calibre for the model
- Dial, hands, and crown examined for correct markings and finish
- Any aftermarket or replacement parts are disclosed in the listing
Condition Grading
We use a straightforward grading scale. Every listing states the condition clearly — no vague terms like "good used condition."
Never worn. May still have stickers or protective film. Box and papers included (where applicable). No marks whatsoever.
Lightly worn with minimal signs of use. May have very light hairlines on the case back from normal wear. Dial, crystal, and case look near-mint. Closer inspection required to spot any wear.
Normal signs of wear. May have light scratches on the case, bracelet, or case back. No deep gouges. Crystal clear. All functions working correctly.
Visible wear. Scratches and scuffs on the case or bracelet. Priced to reflect condition. Photos show wear clearly. Perfect for everyday use where looks matter less than function.
What Comes With Your Watch
Every listing clearly states what's included. Typical items:
- The watch itself (obviously)
- Original box — noted if included, and photographed
- Papers / warranty booklet — noted if included
- Additional straps or bracelets — noted if included
- If box or papers are not included, that's stated clearly in the listing
Our Inspection Process
- 1
Visual inspection
Case, crystal, dial, hands, bezel, bracelet/strap — every surface photographed and assessed.
- 2
Movement test
For automatics: we confirm it winds, hacks (stops when crown is pulled), and runs consistently. For quartz: battery checked and timekeeping verified.
- 3
Function check
All crowns, pushers, and complications tested. Date/day changes correctly. Chronograph starts and stops. Diver bezels click properly.
- 4
Honest listing written
We write the listing ourselves. Any flaw is noted. Price reflects condition. Photos show the real watch, not stock images.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you provide service records?
We include any service records we have. If a watch has been recently serviced, that's noted in the listing. We don't service watches in-house, but if you'd like a watch serviced before purchase, contact us.
Are your watches water resistant?
Water resistance ratings listed in product specs reflect the manufacturer's original rating. Pre-owned watches may have reduced water resistance due to aged seals — we recommend having water resistance tested by a watchmaker before submerging any pre-owned watch.
Can I get more photos before buying?
Absolutely. Email us at info@alphagearlab.com.au or reach out via Instagram and we'll send additional photos of any specific areas you want to see.
What if the watch stops working after I receive it?
Contact us within 14 days of delivery and we'll sort it out. If a watch develops a fault shortly after purchase, we'll work with you on a resolution — return for refund, or repair at our cost.
Do you sell replica or grey market watches?
Never. Every watch we sell is 100% genuine. We don't sell replicas, fakes, or homages marketed as genuine. If it says Seiko, it's a real Seiko.
